Kangchenjunga Base Camp Trek 2021
Kangchenjunga Base Camp Trek 2021
Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek 2021 is one of the great Himalayan trails, which is situated in Nepal’s eastern border with India’s Sikkim. It is a trek far away from the capital city of Kathmandu, which promises adventures full of fun in wilderness, isolation, mountains, and natural glory.
Kangchenjunga is the third highest mountain in the world. Its height from sea-level is 8,586 m. Literal meaning of Kanchenjunga in Nepali is crystal clear. There could be no other name more fitting to this mountain. It lies between Nepal and Sikkim, India, with three of the five peaks (Main, Central and South) directly on the border, and the remaining two (West and Kangbachen) in Nepal's Taplejung District.
What to expect from this
trek?
Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek was opened for travelers in 1988 but from that date till today, the route has been explored by very few travel enthusiasts. Due to the lack of proper infrastructures, this place remained isolated. As a positive result, the natural state of this region remained untouched and unharmed. So, the pure and true form of nature can be expected during this trek.
During the trek, we pass various villages and diverse terrain to Kanchenjunga Base Camp. Throughout the journey, we will be blessed with some amazing views of Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Everest, Mt. Kanchenjunga, Mt. Makalu, etc. From the base camp, we will be rewarded with some classic views of mountains such as Mt. Kanchenjunga, Mt. Kiratchuli, Mt. Kumbhakana, Mt. Pathibhara, Mt. Nepal Peak, Mt. Chang, etc. As we drop down from the base camp, we cross several high mountains passes like Sinon La, Mirgin La, and Sibelapcham La to Oktang Base Camp. And obviously, the Kanchenjunga Conservation area which is home to some rare and endangered species of birds, animals, floras, and wildlife. Snow leopards, Himalayan black bear, Assamese macaque, red panda, etc. are some of the highlighted species found in this region. Besides, the verdant forests, hills, farmlands, waterfalls, rivers, and mountains, Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek is a natural delight.
Likely, the region is inhabited by people from different ethnic groups. In the lowlands, one can see people from Brahmin, Chhetri, Magar, Rai, Limbu, and Gurung community whereas, in highlands, people from the Rai and Limbu community are in abundance. In the highlands, the religion, lifestyle, and characteristics of people are much similar to that of the Tibetan people. So, Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek as a whole is a super combo of diverse culture and religion. One can observe cultural diversity along with some meaningful insights on Hindu and Buddhist religion.
Is Kangchenjunga Base Camp Trek hard?
Kangchenjunga Base Camp Trek is among the hardest trek available in Nepal. So, physical fitness, endurance, and stamina are must traits for oneself to participate in this trek.
